Jules Brooke – Judge
Welcome to the Pause Awards show, where we invite past winners and future judges to talk about their journeys, inspirations and lessons learned in their professional careers. And beyond.
In this show, George Hedon, Founder of Pause Fest and Awards, speaks with Jules Brooke, Founder of She’s The Boss and Handle Your Own PR.
Jules started her career working at the Herald Sun, Sunday Observer and then the Southern Cross group of local papers, firstly as a Sales Trainer and later as an Advertising Rep. She started her own PR agency in 2003, specialising, at first, in entertainment before gravitating to innovation, startups and mumpreneurs. In late 2019, Jules was invited to host her own show on Ticker TV, which she called She’s The Boss. The show focused on women in business and fostered a platform to share lessons and advice.
Jules spent most of her life in media and PR and says the media hasn’t changed at all; there are just more channels.
“I love helping others, women particularly. It’s better than money, really, that feeling that you get that you made a real difference to their business.”

In addition to educating and helping others, Jules is inspired by…
“I am continually inspired by the incredible businesses making a difference in the world and how their founders made it happen. These stories not only inspire me but drive me to be a better person. I particularly love to hear about women striving to make a difference against the odds.”
We spoke about Pause Awards and which categories she prefers the most.
“I’m keen to see the Unexpected Twist entries to see how people have adapted in the last year on the back of the pandemic and lockdowns. Innovation is often the result of having to pivot, so there should be some doozies!”
Jules thrives in challenges, and she shares something you shouldn’t try at home with us.
“I’ve been running ‘Handle Your Own PR’ for the past eight years, and I’ve decided to do a crazy thing, something that I wouldn’t recommend to others, to sell the house and invest in my business.”
